Veteran's Society

History

The Veterans' Society of the Tredegar Park Golf Club was founded in the 25th June 1946 when Mr Fred C Harrison presided over a meeting called for this purpose, and it was resolved that the Society be formed to be divided into two sections, viz. Senior Veterans (65 and over) and Junior Veterans (55 to 64), and the Annual Subscription to be 2/6d (121/2 p). Today the Junior Veterans are 60 to 64. Annual Subscription fee is £5.
In the early days you had to pay a fee of 5/- (25p) to enter competitions, this include 1/-(5p) entrance fee, 1/- (5p) Sweep and Supper. Today all competitions are free except for the Open Day and the newly introduced Members and Guests and there is no Sweep and you pay for your Supper.
Vets' matches against other clubs commenced in 1953.The Society plays 4 ball-better-ball 'friendly' fixtures, on home and away basis, against other clubs, which are within 20 miles radius of Tredegar Park.
All that is mentioned above was started at the old Tredegar Park Golf Club, which was situated in Bassaleg Road Newport, and it will continue in the same format at the new Tredegar Park Golf Club which is located at Parc - y - Brain Lane, Rogerstone, Newport.
